    ShishTV
Watched me a programme called 101 things to do with the dead about people who...do things with dead persons. The first person to appear was former Lj person Shishaldin. She talked about her scheme to marry some dead french poet. Interesting. They should make more TV about her (and, of course Mr Noway himself).

    8 facts
There was once a website that set out with the aim of offering you the reader only the best, most accurate and well researched lists of 8 facts the world has ever known. This heroic effoprt failed, alas.
But now it returns to try once more...

    Prediction about ep2
Yoda turns out to be the guy who commisioned the clones. The fact that he was used by Sidious (without his knowledge I suspect) to further the ends of the sith is why he's so asshamed that he has to live in seclusion and despair (in ep 5). Yes I know this isn't very interesting but I just wanted to get it out there somehow.

Tatu and the Turkish and eurovision
I was planning to watch eurovision in the least camp way I possibly could i.e whilst waiting for Tatu to do their rumoured "controversial nudity" but I was asleep and so I missed it. Fortunately they only kissed briefly so I guess I didn't miss anything.
I'm assuming Americans don't have any idea what Eurovision is so:

I saw the scoring part at the end and enjoyed it. Does this make me gay? Maybe I should question my sexuality more. Maybe I will after I finish downloading asian porn.

    Dhalgren-Samuel R. Delaney
When I read Gravity's Rainbow I came away from it not really understanding it but with the conviction that it was at least partially to do with the arc of the rocket. I also thought there was something of the young artists fear of failure in it.
When I read the Illuminatus Trilogy I was (and still am) convinced that the characterisation of it by the Rolling Stone journalist as "the longest shaggy dog joke in literary history" was pretty accurate. The only worthwhile point of it seemed to me to be "think for yourself schmuck" which is made explicit. It seemed to spend a lot of time expounding the value of sex and drugs as an escape without realising that escape is also abandonment, the classic mistake of the hippies. You can't save the world you've run away from.
Dhalgren effects me on a very emotional level. I don't really have much of a life but I really want one. The characters in Dhalgren don't (as the narator of the novel suggests) have lives either really but they just don't care. I care because I think caring is the only thing that will give me the impetus to change anything in my life.
I try not to discuss plot in my novel reviews mainly because I think it tells the potential reader the last thing they actually need to know. A fairly large proportion of any novel is what actually happens to the characters. I don't see much point in telling you that stuff. You'll find out anyway if you read it. My difficulty here is getting across my impressions of the novel when they are likely to be more personal than is useful. The narator in Dhalgren spends an awful lot of time saying how his reading of events is not accurate. Is there an "actually happened" behind everything? Is there some string of events that have been abstracted by the (fictional) narator? Or is it just Delaney's journal with added fluff? I don't know. I'm not even sure that I can be convinced to care.

    Pollen - Jeff Noon
I liked the start and some of the middle. Th taxi dog's introductory paragraph is pleasently absolute. The half dead man and his boy friend standing in the rain is both funny and sad. There are many poetic moments. But it is inconsistent with Vurt. I won't go into the various problems because I'm not an insane fanatic but they are there. Vurt worked for me because even though the premise was unrealistic it was intiguing and kept to rigorously. It was also very well written, well structured and had great characters. Pollen has the great characters and writting but strikes me as being badly structured and inconsistent.
    But.
Is it worth reading? Well, how the hell can I tell you that? I'm not you, am I?

I'm assuming no one gives a shit about my dad being the Mayor of The Borough Of Test Valley but I'd be lying if I said I didn't give a shit.
    Leaves school at 14.
Works in a garage beating dnts out of cars for 40 years.
    Starts doing local councill work.
    Helps lots of people.
Elected as a Borough counillor by the people he helped.
    Works around the borough.
Gets made Mayor because people like him.

Being Mayor just means being the chairman of the council. There's a predictably vast amount of cermeony surrounding it (which I attended) but it's just making sure that meetings run smoothly.

Not sure what to be more excietd about. Star Wars II comes out on the 16th (but I won't see it for a while) and my father gets made Mayor of the borough of Test Valley on the 15th. Which is just about the most startling thing I can imagine given the fact that he left school at 14 and spent most of his life working as a panel beater.

    Frustration!
The phones for the whole South of England have been down for several hours. Couldn't dial up or anything. At first, from the noise the modem was makign I thought something in the computer had broken.
As you can see everything is okay now.

    Yesturdays's exciting adventure
And so it came to pass that at 1:30 in the afternoon yesturday my mother took me to the outskirts of Salisbury to buy a new mouse. The old mouse, a Microsoft Intellipoint model that had decided not to move right or up intermitently, would be retired and replaced with a new model of some sort. But first came the attempt to buy me clothes. My father is to be the Mayor of the Borough of Test Valley and I am to attend the Mayor making. I will probably have to wear a suit for this. And So, to Matalan for the examination of shoes. My criteria being that they don't hurt my feat. Personally I'd be prepared to wear my Chuck Taylors but I don't know where I can get a new pair of those. Before Matalan B&Q was examined to purchase a light switch and to find the Holy Grail of purple chairs for my Mother's Cousin's Ruby webbing aniversery.
After these ordeals and waiting in the car for mother to examine the contenst of Homebase we set out for PcWorld.
We found the mice almost immediately. I decided that the "wheel mouse optical" would be sufficient for my needs. And then the process of examining the other products of the store began. Computer games and other software were examined and dismissed. Mother found an empty PC case and asked me whether "that was all that was inside them" to which I said no. I had briefly glimpsed the Macs but I decided that mother and I should have a better look at them. And I want one. Then all that remained was to purchase the mouse and abscond.
Off into the day we went.
    And all was quiet.

Watching the San Marina Grand Prix.
    Exciting!!
    (CIA info on the country)
F1 is either dull as anything or spectacular as hell.
Rain makes it more interesting but there doesn't seem to be any coming.

I'm not sure whether this is a good idea or not. The anime is pretty cool. I wouldn't even be giving it a chance if Norrinton weren't involved.
